New member here.  I inherited my grandfather's Gruen, which I think is a Baron; don't know the year; any help with that would be appreciated.  My grandfather died in 1969, so the watch has been sitting in a drawer since then.  I would like to get it running with a new crystal and cleaned a little.  Is there a service that you folks recommend? I would appreciate any comments that you may have. Thanks, and I am looking forward to spending some time with the community.

Hello and welcome! Very nice to inherit such a watch.

It does look like a curvex baron. Should have a caliber 370 inside. This can be confirmed by opening the case back and take some pictures from the movement and inside case back.

You could contact member veritas123, he has many crystals. If a watch is sitting in a drawer that long, it needs a COA. Clean, oil and adjustment by a watchmaker. Maybe some American members have some advices where to go to.

You can enter your zip code on the AWCI website to find a nearby watchmaker:

That does look like a good match to the Baron. Here is an advert from 1949 that helps bolster that ID of yours:

As mentioned, AWCI does have a tool on their website for finding an affiliated watchmaker that offers service/repairs. Not every watchmaker is listed. But if there is a place near you, such as an independent jeweler (not Zales or Ultra, or what have you chain store), check with them too.

A service will likely cost close to $200. More with the crystal replacement. Don't let them alter or  "clean-up" the dial.
