A few pictures of my recently acquired Gruen Carré. No competition on eBay, so bought for a fair opening bid. Seller didn't know how to open it, so was unaware that it was enamel over solid silver. A little dusting and cleaning is all I've done.

I'll work it into the proper format eventually. I date this one to 1931 or so, mainly due to the adjustment data being milled out on the 885 movement.

Nice! Didn't spot this one on eBay. Still on my wish list, but of what I have seen so far a "fair opening bid" usually means I will have to wait for my bonus to arrive first Laughing

Do you know what the relation was between Gruen and Lipmann Frères (LIP) on these models? What I know is that LIP held the patent for the design and that they sold them under the model name "Eclipso". The Gruen case is Swiss production, so not produced by LIP which was based in Besançon, France. Possibly LIP and Gruen used the same case manufacturer?

That reminds me that in the last AWCI Horological Times issue (Feb 2013) was a piece written about the Gruen Carre. It's 1 page long with some nice pictures of a red and black one. Page 16, Feb 2014 "The Case Issue".

I missed that price reduction. Very fair price! And very very very nice looking one. I think it found a good home!
