I was reading on another forum that a fellow uses Isopropyl Alcohol as his liquid to do Ultrasonic cleaning. i thought that sounds unusual. So a question for those that use an Ultrasonic Cleaner, what liquid do you use and why ?

I use a variety of chemicals depending on the task at hand. To clean cases that I've polished that have that horrible black grime left on them I use ammonia.

I use alcohol sometimes when I'm removing rust from parts. It's the last step and is done to remove water that may be on the parts from the previous steps.

For movements, etc, it's the standard issue L&R cleaner and rinse.

I use commercial "Oakite" for cleaning metal parts. For watch parts, I use the L&R stuff as Mike indicates.

I'm using ELMA products available in Europe.

Stage #1 I use ELMA Cleaning Solution 1:9 and in stage #2 ELMA Suprol which also removes any remaining moist.

I use a home made formula that shines brass like new. For the Ultrasonic, I use "Magic Green" by Grobet USA. Also, I have used bleach on porcelain dials, and other common chemicals around the house. I am always looking for something new, and for the most part, have had great results. I am not equipped to shine cases, so I send them out for professional finishing.

Love them anyway.
