Howdy Gruenites!

Looking for a mainspring for a Quadron 117-119. I prefer to keep my money in the forum. Please let me know if you can help!

Kind Regards,
Tomas AKA Timeticker

Sad

I have some pretty obscure Gruen mainsprings but those Quadron springs are hens teeth. I do have a load of Gruen parts (including springs) due on dock here at the end of the month so I'm holding out to see if one shows up.

They are indeed Hen's teeth! Getting harder and harder to find. I just purchased a circus lot of Gruen M/S, and hoping to get, wishing, drooling, praying, that a few 117-119 show up. I have not forgot about those watches either. I will eventually pay them off, and hopefully take care of the debt. Thanks again GaryM!!! The other problem is that I have this 119 that was dropped, and shattered the 3rd wheel jewel. (I didn't drop it) I replaced the bridge with a 117 and it worked like a charm. However, there seems to be a problem with end shake in the balance assembly, and trying to either shim under the base, or may have to re-staff it. This is a gorgeous watch, 18k, and near mint. This belongs to a customer, and I want nothing more that to return this watch completely healthy.

If worse comes to worse I dug into the movement drawer and found a 117 parts movement. Used mainsprings are not the best way to go but in a pinch... The balance assembly looks to be OK but I haven't looked closely at it.

I've been thinking since I had to make a couple of custom clock M/S(s). The 117-119 series would be a good one to try and duplicate. If successful then look at others to replicate.

I'd think in a pinch, one of the parts houses... Borel or Twin Cities will have the springs.

Agree with Jack. I prefer to fit new after market.

I have many Gruen original springs (unfortunately not for 117) but very often I find they have lost their capacity after so many years. I only fit old Gruen springs if that size is impossible to find new.

Is Borel or Twin Cities cheaper than Cas-Ker?
