I'm noting that images on other forums will disappear over time. Guessing, that as threads get old and server space is used up, things get deleted.

Here, I'm of the impression that we don't do that. That said, I'm noting that images hosted elsewhere that are key to a discussion, get deleted from the host. The result is that interesting research or items that tell a story in pictures are now gone.

Just griping I guess.

I would think most of the disappearing images are hotlinked files that have been moved, deleted or lost due to lapsed or abandoned accounts. I mostly hotlink, but I keep a specific folder in my photo hosting account for that purpose so they won't move. But if there's ever a major reformat from the hosting service, or it or I go belly up, then yeah, most of what I've posted will disappear. I'll try to get into the habit of uploading pictures here instead.

You have to be careful of imaging sites. I noticed in the model database many have lost pictures embedding them from another host/forum instead of uploading them here. This forum has no size or time limits.

That said nothing is forever, but someone said once you put it online it's there forever, hmmm...
