I recently acquired this Gruen Curvex from ebay. It has 311 movement. The case back has 255 stamped into it. This indicates it is a 1937 with correct movement by using Mike' and Berry's excellent Internet site. I think the name of this watch is a Baron again using one of Mike's books. I am in need of hands for this watch. I think the correct hands are gilt baton or moon hands. They appear to be 8 mm. Any correction to the above is welcome. To find the hands would be great!

I believe you have a Curvex Ace. The design of the bezel has the details of the Curvex Ace rather than the Curvex Baron. Also, a style number of 255 is that of the Curvex Ace. If you look closely at the bezel in particular the ends just before where the lugs are formed, you will notice that the sides are raised as they form the lugs. It's very difficult to describe in words what I am talking about so the best I can say is to examine the picture on page 17 of the Model ID Guide Volume 1 very closely and compare it millimeter for millimeter against your case. I assume you own Volume 1, if not feel free to contact me Smile If you were relying only on Volume 2 then your guess was a good one. It's a beautiful watch. Congratulations

Thanks Mike. Yes I only have volume 2. I will PM you about volume 1. Thanks for your input.

Mike is correct that this is the 1935 version of the Curvex Ace. It was one of the three original Curvex models released in the fall of 1935, and stayed in production for just over a year.

The leaf hands are correct for this model, and are more easily read (to me) than the moon hands. I do not believe that baton hands would have been used on this model.

It's a nice watch. These often show heavy wear to the gold-filled surfaces of the lugs. Yours appears to be in good condition. Enjoy it.
