This looks to be a good convention and near Gruen land.

Convention Website

Schedule

Thursday the 25th there is a Gruen Presentation
4:00-5:00 Presentation: Gruen Watches (302-04)

I'm sure we'd be party crashers unless it was Bruce, Mike or Barry presenting Very Happy

See you there!

Any idea who among the members here might be inclined to attend. I would do it if there is an opportunity to meet members of this forum. Can we get a show of hands so to speak.

Also I would make special Gruen forum badges to sport while we are there. I'm sure we'd stand out. Twisted Evil

Wow, yeah, any idea who’s presenting Gruen & what? I plan on being there—but have to join first Smile

Also, any interest in a Cincy sightseeing visit while folks are around, either before or after? Thought maybe with planning we could get access to Time Hill & USPC Norwood, visit the Cleves shop (en route to Wadsworth plant in Dayton ky), 5th street, any other points of interest. Plus a brewery or two, if desired, to spice things up.

Thoughts?

My two caveats:
1) I'm wrong many times a day --just ask my wife!
2) Always seeking to learn more

We'll find out soon enough who will be presenting, Cleves did the last two presentations for the NAWCC. You don't have to be a member to see any presentation, however to get to the mart you should become a member at least if you want to get in early. If you decide to join there are special new member discounts that you want to take advantage of, I can help in that arena.

As for Cincy sightseeing you bet!!! I'll buy the first round. ;-)

FYI I just bought airfare to Ohio for the convention. I'm flying into and out of Cincy. Maybe the Saturday of the convention we can get together as a group and head down there. I need to go back and look through my past posts at the NAWCC forum and see who it was that I once talked with about getting a tour of Time Hill.

Screwed my airfare up; had to make changes. Now maybe we can do a group tour in Cincy on Sunday noon-ish.

Buddy and I are going to make our reservations here in the coming week. We'll probably fly in on Wednesday evening. Thursday there are talks on Swiss watches and military watches (keynote), should be good. Dan had mentioned the tour, I would buy the first round and make the fancy Gruen nametags. Very Happy

Will do! I'll prototype a couple of examples and post. We can all chose which one we'd go with. Cool

Hey y'all, busy with work so been unable to read much, but looking forward to the convention! Love the name tags idea.

Will need to get cracking on the tour. Let me know if Sunday is the day we can get a quorum.

All that I can say is things are really up in the air now. COVID-19 has taken 7 of us here in the state. We are the epi-center of serious activity in the US. We now suspect that my wife (schoolteacher) had a mild case of it 3 weeks ago. We might have passed it unknowingly to many others.

The next 2 months are crucial for the National event to take place. We are a pinch away of cancelling our regional event that happens in May.

Gary,

we have a number of cases here in Germany too. It is impossible to stop what's happening because once you have symptoms you have already passed it to others. So the number of cases will increase impossible to be stopped. The only chance is to slow down the number of cases so that the peak is not too high for national health systems to collapse. The slower the slope, the longer the wave, the lower the peak.

Here in Germany almost all fairs are postponed or cancelled, I am glad that I am working from home office. Next fair I would have to visit would be in May, which I expect might be the peak time for COVID-19 here in Germany. I expect the fair to be cancelled as well...

But I am sure that I will get it just like all others one day.

Barney

Gary, hopefully your wife has recovered.

It is certainly interesting times that we are living in. As for me, I'm plowing ahead with my plans: Work travel, vacations and going to the national all in the next few months. I plan to wash my hands, use the fist bump to greet people and try to keep my fingers/hands from poking my eyes or touching my mouth. The latter being the hardest part.

Wishing good health to all.

Subject: Re: Regional and National

The NAWCC recognizes that communication to members regarding our events is important and this will be a regular topic at staff meetings. The risks posed by the Coronavirus and most up-to-date information is available through the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (WWW.CDC.GOV) which we encourage members to monitor.

As of this writing, March 2nd, we are glad to report that CDC is communicating a low risk stating "The general American public is unlikely to be exposed to the virus that causes COVID-19 at this time, so the immediate health risk from COVID-19 is considered low."

We therefore have no current plans on cancelling any of our events, including Regionals or the National Convention at this time.

Glad to hear she is better.

Thank you for that email copy. Was that to the general membership? I did not get it.

We’ll see what happens I guess.

That was internal when our chair notified National that there is a chance we might cancel our event for May.

After much deliberation the Gruen Chairs made the decision to cancel our regional in May. Arizona also cancelled their regional just 3 days ago. Who knows what in store for National...

Damn it. I was planning to go to my first meet and cough and sneeze all over anything that appealed to me, like I was a kid spitting on pizza to steal it from my little brother. It was such a good stratagem. Back to the drawing board.

Honestly, I'd have been interested in attending but the time frame is not good for me. Also, I'm not convinced that it is yet a good idea with a pandemic still raging with a significant chuck of the population unvaxed for numerous reasons (that seemingly defy logic for the most part). Also, airfare is kinda nuts too.

Am kicking around going to the York, PA regional. It has been a good one in the past. Hopefully in the Fall things will be clearer for travel.

....and as Cubs fans everywhere used to say: There is always next year.

Well well, you all missed a great show. There were 2 Pentagons, 2 50th Anniversary watches, 2 Doctors watches, plenty of Curvex watches. Didn't see you there Alex if you were there... Dayton, OH is next years so we should kick up the Gruen gang again.

450 tables of horological goodies. No masks to be seen.Very Happy People were selling and buying like madmen. My buddy selling various watches made 40 grnd in sales, utterly insane!

Picked up a nice Apex cased autowind, another fancy lugged Gruen beauty, and a batch of $5 Gruen heads. I picked out a nice trench from a junk box. My buddy gave me a nice 1811 fusee watch for helping him at the table.

Very nice watches! I envy your trench. I was looking for something like that but didn't find it.

Yeah, Jack came by and told me there was a Gruen enthusiast he met but could recall name at hand. One vendor indicated that Mike Barnett was roaming around but didn't see him.
