I have not been able to locate the complete patent docs yet.

Very nice! And the patent, too, ftw. Try US66772.

My two caveats:
1) I'm wrong many times a day --just ask my wife!
2) Always seeking to learn more

Aw yeah, thanks, it's a design patent, so I had to search D0066772. Always 8 spots to fill.
Looks better. Cheers.

Hey, wonder if these guys made the parts boxes, too?

Was wondering the exact same thing...I have a really good suspect for the possible manufacturer, let me get some photos together.

Dan, this is the company that I think may have a decent chance of producing the parts box and watch boxes in question. Western Tray & Case Co. Cincinnati, Ohio.
There are similarities (differences too, but made for different purposes) in not only things like font but in the production of the tray and the boxes. No direct proof yet but seems to me they gotta be coming out of Ohio but who knows.
I will put this salesman ribbon tray in the database, these photos will work until then. I wish I could stop the deterioration of this tray, it's brittle leather.

This ad from when I think this tray is roughly from:1920:.

That would be cool if it was Cincy. Still amazed at what was here then. Wadsworth was amazing in their technology. I’ve got dozens of their patents, I hope to share them. The photographic methods they used for case engraving and serial numbering are mind blowing to me, even 100 years later.

Has anyone tried Luxor on these before? Works wonders on vintage leather straps. Maybe a test run light coat on a smaller box.

Same design... but the leather pattern has turned 90 degrees. None of my other brown boxes are. Maybe a production error?

And Gruen stamped on the velvet pad. Is that under the grammes label or... before Grammes?
