I also believe that that watch belongs to the box. 21 jewel watch in 21 jewel box. Correct period imo. And... your advertisement. Clearly the same Gruen font style. Never noticed a ladies watch in a box with that lid.

A thought, maybe there are more adds with ladies watches in a box than mens. The box matters less for the male population? My bet, a lot of them are unisex, or almost the same (color difference).
