I have never seen one with box and all three bands, terrific!

Extremely nice! Did you find like this, as a set? I recall there was just the box on eBay a while ago.

The expansion bracelet looks like one that came with it originally. I got one just like it, which is branded "STURDY" and it is fitted to "Plate 41" in the "1918 Worthy Company of Watchmakers" booklet. It seems Gruen used "STURDY" as standard fitment for more watches. Here is one more example of a watch with an original 'STURDY" nickel bracelet link

I think Sturdy was one of Gruen's go-to bracelet makers for some time (along with Kreisler, B&N, Wadsworth, and more). I have a "Mesh 23" from the 1929 catalog, and it too is a Sturdy.

I'm hoping that Mike B. will be able to get the bracelet section of the Master Book into a manageable and distributable format one of these days.

And I agree with Thojil that the ribbon and expansion bracelets were the only attachments that were original equipment. Although I believe some sets also had a chatelaine or pendant attachment too. But judging from the layout of this box, it looks to me like only the ribbon and expansion ones belong.

Wow! Awesome job as everyone has already said.

For the database entry itself, just suggesting, but wouldn't it be good to have the word "Wristlet" in the model name somewhere as that's how Gruen described them in the ads from 1928 (e.g. "Gruen Convertible Wristlet, plain or decorated"). It is also, obviously, what is shown on the box.

For indicating plate 49, would be good to have the book this plate is in? In the back there's a bit of a translation from "plate 49" to "Expansion wrist - Bascine Style" which I assume is how someone would go into a jewelry store and reference it. It may have been called "CB28" or other label too when it came to the public since that is the kind of name they were identified by.

The date range could perhaps be narrowed to 1918 as the book is from that date as were the ads that these first appeared in and when they seemed to be most popular.

I am unsure of how the database records are stored. If all of the discussion following the entry is included, then perhaps no additions needed as a future user will have all of this extra and explained text to go with it. If only the 1 page is kept, then a lot of detail is not shown to the person wanting info on their watch.

Take 'em or leave 'em suggestions Smile

No, this is a marriage. And yes, that is the box.

This watch was in fact my second Gruen watch I got. It came with the bracelet it is still on.
I bought the silk ribbon a year ago, seems to be a better match. The box and plate 41 comparable bracelet (unknown brand) are recent buys.

Coubled together it looks nice! One day I hope to find original Gruen wristbands, but for now this will do. Very Happy

Okay. I tried to resist, but now I feel compelled to share mine...

Expansion bracelet is also by Sturdy, silk clasp is B&N. mine came together, some time ago. I have no reason to believe its a marriage.

WOW Those are Gruen bands?? Dang, you've got quite the source!

I just came across someone that bought out the remaining stock of Gruen stuff on the Swiss side, but it was late in the game and had been largely picked over. I gotta go check on bands! I'm sure I'll not find anything like what you've got. CONGRATS on that find and acquisition

Yeah I got lucky with this one! I don't think they are marked Gruen, but I haven't received them yet so can't confirm the manufacturer.

Every now and then there are NOS parts offered on Swiss and also German eBay. Just a few months ago I bought a NOS dial for my Curvex "Model 530" in Switzerland. Also recently there was a whole range of new ladies calibers on offer (210, 275, etc).

I'm convinced there still must be a lot of NOS Gruen material around in Switzerland especially since the Swiss don't have the habit selling through Internet a lot. The problem is to find it...

Is there a trick to searching for Gruen items on those sites? Even restricting it to watch categories, you still end up with 95% of the results simply being green items.
