It does have resemblance with the cal 87 in the caliber database. Do you have pictures from the setting mechanism?

Well, if you insist... for the record, I really hate snap-on dials! I feel like I'm going to break it, every single time.

Of note, the jewel count is ... [drumroll please] ... 15! Yes, 15. The center wheel and third wheel are both only jeweled on the top. I've never seen this jeweling configuration on a Gruen before.

The only marks on the bottom plate are 2 on the left, and 7001 on the right.

Strange the jewel count wasnt marked. And that keyless works does resemble the cal 87! It must be family.

Not sure what a snapping dial is?

A snap-on dial is one without feet, that is held on by a friction interference fit around the outside rim. You have to pry the dial off to remove it. They are common on high-end Swiss grades (not that I am implying that this on is particularly high end). The dial is also glass enamel - the best quality of its day - and "fancy".

Overall, this presents as a high-end movement but it is deceptive due to the jeweling.

I have seen 7000--exactly the same. Forgive a strange question: does the arrow on your balance bridge point toward the register? Or toward the regulator?

It does look to be well-made, even if lower jewels. All the best houses had entry-level (for them) watches--and this has some premium features that belie the jewel count.

I have also seen 7000 and noted it to be the same. 7000 and 7001 are the only movements I've ever seen in this serial range or this bridge style.

The arrow points to the cap setting. It is a very small arrow, completely hidden beneath the regulator.
