Hi,

So thanks to Jack I have a running 420SS movement with a decent dial (and decent timing so far).

Now need a 'case ring' and crown to finish the project. I didn't realize until yesterday that the package that had all the parts when I purchased it off eBay was missing the case ring that secures the case back (duh...).

I don't even know when to look for one to be honest and this might come down to finding another salvage case that fits, so suggestions are welcome as this is not meant to be a collectable piece, simply a project watch for me. That said, I'd hate to just sell off the movement and dial--I was going to wear this when I got it sorted.

The case back reads "420SS-808", which I think puts this in the mid-1950s. I've also included a snapshot.

Thanks again in advance--great forum.

One of the members sent me a note asking what is a case ring.

I probably using the wrong nomenclature, so I thought I'd include better pictures.

The first two are the actual case in question (caliber 420SS style 808).

The third picture is an example of what I'm calling the case ring from another watch I just completed.

Again, thanks in advance.

Hey Levine, I believe the threaded ring is a component of a two-piece case back; 'case back ring' seems appropriate. Unfortunately, I can't help in sourcing one.

As an aside, I know this design was used briefly by Seiko in some of their earliest waterproof cases, such as the Cronos Sea Horse shown here https://adventuresinamateurwatchfettling.com/2018/02/25/a-wa bi-sabi-seiko-cronos-sea-horse-from-1961/
