This boy needs a glass or plastic crystal to become wearable again.

/vgforum/index.php?t=getfile&id=10447&private=0

From the Gruen material catalogue I know I need this one:
/vgforum/index.php?t=getfile&id=10448&private=0

Not that it helps in the search.

If anyone has one (scratches no problem) or… knows what GS model I need, please let me know.

That's a odd one, my BB and G-S catalogs shows no cross reference for the 500/501. Where is Darren when you need him. Sad

If all fails I can try to make you one by hand.

Hi Jenneke,

can you please measure the crystal dimensions? The GS and SUC catalogs show several sizes for "Masters" which is not surprising given the commonness of this name at Gruen. I still have hopes that MT377 could be correct although the envelope of my crystal has "Curvex Master" printed on it.

I am not a star measuring with my digital caliper inside the case from the supreme. Length is 28,79 or a little smaller. Width around the crown 15,4 -15,49. And width at the straight part at the end 13,69.

I will have a second go on the crystal from the master. Might give more accurate results. Rolling Eyes

Are there online sources that can be used for these catalogues that you know off? I’ve tried the GS page but the serach function didnt help:
https://www.gssupplies.com/crystal-catalogs

I see over here the master mt377 you mention. But no dimensions.

What would one take as starting material?

The MT377 crystal is 28.7x15.5. This would be at least very close, so I believe it is a fit and the print on the envelope is wrong.

Great! That sounds close enough. Going to look for the MT377!

Dollar store reading glasses have worked well (plastic thin lenses), I've also used tape cassette cases but they can be pretty scratched up.I use a light bulb and re-wrok station to imprint the bezel outline and the form the curve of the new crystal.

A normal light bulb is getting hot enough to “melt” that plastic? Interesting.

Sounds fun to try.

No, the light bulb is only used to form the shape of the crystal, I use a rework station for the heat, a hairdryer can be used in a pinch.

Here is my rework station.

My side off the business would not be profitable. Laughing Takes a lot of time to make them (and streamlining would make it work). But can recommend it, it is fun.

Crystal arived! The quality control wasn’t striving to Gruens snap-fit.    Upper left corner needs to be filed down.

Not only the upper left needed filing. This was definitely not my favourite job.

The correct crystal for this watch is:

WC  2MC287
Perfit  MB287/1
BB  MT2875/155
Fulton M2-287A

IN GLASS

I have a very large inventory  ( of this one too ) , but I'll admit shipping overseas is a problem. I have not found a REASONABLE shipper service . I believe the last order to UK was $18 shipping alone.
I have never NOT been able to supply a crystal. I specialize in GLASS but I do have a large inventory of GS as well. Not many of the " P " like the subject of this thread. Not my favorite crystal material. Too much distortion .

Good to know you have crystals!

Yeah, shipping small light packages from the US got expensive. Tax will be added too…
Only other option is as a “letter” in a normal envelop in a card. Have had watches sent to me in that way. Not insured of course.
