Any information is helpful. I believe it was made in Switzerland in the 1940's. States that it's 10k goldfield, very nice timepiece. I've personally never seen such a beautiful timepiece.. I do not believe the dark blue band on it is original and also the band is not in the best of shape. However I could be wrong as I am not an expert. I have no clue as to the value of this timepiece and really don't know much about Gruen Curvex 🤷‍♀️

If anyone has any helpful information, I would greatly appreciate it.

Hi and welcome!

You have a very pretty curvex with rope lugs. I thinks this model is called the curvex Portrait. With style number 498 and a 17 jewels movement caliber 440. The movement is “curved”, hence the curvex name.

Its from around 1950.

Value… I am sorry but we are not appraisers. That said, many people like the the Gruen curvex. The longer cases are favorites. Your model is for a buy in now on Ebay… or you could look for sold prices to get a ball park idea.

Are you the owner of this site?

To be completely honest, I never seen any specifications as to any particular shaped timepieces, required by this forum, when registering. I found the forum searching because I'm curious about this timepiece. It's been in my family for years and has now made it to me in which I know nothing about. And if by me inquiring about the value, prompted an offense toward you or someone on this forum, then by all means, I will happily provide my review and move on!

As for "Ebay", I have no words at this time, because words can not explain that insult!

I am not a native english speaker, so if my reply offended you, I am sorry.

I gave you info on the watch, as far as my knowledge reaches. Ofcourse you are allowed to ask about prices. But.. In general its difficult to value a watch. If its a heirloom, its priceless. If its gold or platinum, resale value in general the weight of the watch. You said you had no clue about the value and I assumed you wanted to know. I always look at similar sold items from ebay to get an idea.

Nice to have such a family piece. Are you going to wear and enjoy it?

Few things within the realms of decency are actually not allowed on this forum; as long as it pertains to Gruen. We are loose in that aspect.

Jenneke and I are co-admins of the forum. I would like to point out that we are volunteers and as such give the best we can. There is an FAQ for you to read - https://vintagegruen.org/vgforum/index.php?t=thread&frm_ id=18&

I personally do not like to give valuations. I'm not an appraiser. Nor is anyone on this site. It is a skill, done by professionals and in person. We as a group are however interested in the history of the various models of Gruen's production, and not just limited to Curvex.

All I know is based on hard work & writing by others. I can only aspire to augment this body of knowledge. If I am wrong it is because of my own failings. -me
