Time for my "Tomas" imitation... Smile

I'm looking for a replacement dial if anyone has one they are willing to part with for a reasonable fee. Watch is a 705 - 13 with the case inscribed as 1934. Dial is 25mm h x 21mm w. I need a crystal too (25.0mm x 20.5mm) so if anyone has spare stock....

While i'm in a begging mood......if anyone has a red seconds hand for a Pan-Am, i'm looking for one of those too.

Hello!

In looking at the dial for your 705, I'm thinking it isn't the correct shape for the case. As to the seconds hand, good luck. I've had to buy complete movements to find my spares.

Hey Jack,

I'm 'pretty sure' the dial is original given its condition and the amount of 'gunk' around it and it actually fits the case / dial cover fairly well. I've cleaned up the case etc since those pics were taken and it looks much more presentable now. As for the red seconds hand....i figgered as much. Smile

I don't know if or how this is possible (moved feet, lucky placement of the 4th wheel), but I think that may be an Elgin dial. I've only ever seen that oddball "10" on Elgins.

Must agree with Micky T on this.

I have the same model in White gold filled, same dial, even the very strange 10, although the second hand track on mine is different
When I first received it I thought it was a redial because of that 10,
I believe the Models are Strap 134 for the Yellow Gold and 135 for the White

Will post pictures later

Interesting. I just know that font from Elgin dials, but I suppose perhaps Gruen used it too. Another possibility - I usually see that odd font on NOS Elgin dials. It's never been 100% clear to me whether these are in fact from the Elgin factory, or aftermarket replacement dials made by a third party. If that's the case, maybe similar styles were made for more than just Elgin.

MikeyT,

Did you ever make that solution I gave you the recipe for? Please let me know either way.

Given that the dial looks redone on that pan am, paint the town red (second hand). Some enamel red paint and pop her in the toaster oven for a slow roast.

For the PanAm hand, use a matte red model paint applied very thinly.

Borel has a red seconds hand that is a reasonable substitute.

Heres the photos of mine

This just as I received it. Same movement, same case maker. the marking around the the second hand is different

http://i1107.photobucket.com/albums/h399/bazzab51/Strap135.jpg

The dial fits in the same way as Mickeys.

http://i1107.photobucket.com/albums/h399/bazzab51/Strap135Bezelremoved.jpg

The dial seems to be finished in the same way.

http://i1107.photobucket.com/albums/h399/bazzab51/Strap135Dial.jpg

It does look like a match to the Elgin, It does not match the watch in the Collectors Book,
My case back number, is 230 later that Mickeys, which might lead me to believe that they were from the same batch?
Maybe the factory had a group of old stock watches re dialed to modernise them.

PS Mickey, did you manage to contact Darin?
