Bought this one today on flea market what is it?
Haven't seem Gruen like this before.
Anyone can tell me if I should have it serviced and keep or sell as is?
Size is about 51mm lug to lug.
I mostly collect Benrus and Bulova so this out of my comfort zone.

You sir, have done quite well for a first Gruen.

What you have is better known as a Curvex Majesty from 1937, the longest of the Curvexes, and one that is highly sought by dedicated Gruen collectors.

The dial appears to be in excellent original condition, and the case seems to have avoided the excessive wear that often plagues this model.

Nice score!

So is it worth fixing it? It would probably cost me around $150 to overhaul movement.
I paid $20 for it so total would be around $170. Does this watch worth that much?

You would probably do close to as well listing it as is. I would expect this watch to bring somewhere between 50 to 100 times what it cost you. You can check closed listings on eBay for sale results, as a couple of these have sold recently.
Why do I never find these things at the flea markets I visit?

You got to dig Smile Go for the pile of crap watches, not for the once neatly arranged Smile
