Since Thojil's dog is an effective deterrent I shall have to seek a Chrono-Timer elsewhere. If any members have knowledge of one available I would appreciate hearing about it.

I hear you Gary. Honestly, price is probably the one thing that really puzzles me when it comes to Chrono Timer watches. It seems asking prices are all over the place and I am not really sure what a fair price would or should be. Hopefully someone here can give me a bit of a road map so to speak.

Asking prices are just that. Wait for one to show up as a real auction. I got my Chrono-Timer that way. It was a nice clean SS example. I paid about $500 or so, and sold it for about the same. I know people ask big bucks, but with something as "routine" as a Chrono-Timer, I'd bide my time and wait for a true no reserve auction. You'll do a lot better. And when I say "routine," I realize they aren't exactly common, but they do show up a coupe times per year.

Was that the steel case that went for 850$? Not sure what the price should be, but 850$ sounds about right for a steel Chrono-Timer. Gold in good condition like mine go for 1,200-1,500$ on eBay. Chrono24 dealers tend to price on the high side. And I wasn't suggesting that these show up all the time or are easy to snag for under $850, but as with pretty much anything, if you wait for one to show up as a NR auction, that's how you're likely to get the best price.

I don't think so. I don't recall the details, but somebody on the old board (maybe thojill or keeth?) identified it as somebody else's ebauche. I only remember it because around the same time a NOS case was on eBay and I (like many others) have a NOS dial, so I did some digging to see if it was a relatively common movement like some of these Valjoux calibers, and it wasn't at all.

Don't take me at my word on that one. It's just my recollection. I could be wrong. From what I can tell, it's a cal. 450 and I can't find any cross reference. Maybe my recollection is wrong.

Don't blame me... Actually my opinion is that the 450 is a Gruen movement based on the fact that the base caliber shares many parts with cal. 405 and 430 (Material Catalog 448, page 54). Maybe the specific chrono parts were supplied by another manufacturer, something which is still common practice today.
