I am curious as to how people store their watches. I am getting tired of buying the watch boxes. They only hold twenty watches and then you just stack them up. There has to be a innovative solution to this problem. Please show your creative ideas. If plans exist for a large storage cabinet would be very interested in them also.

You have a lot of watches... I'd suggest an armoire.

I just have one of the 20 watch cases with a glass top... holds more than that. Rest are in a soft cloth roll-up. Holds 15. The rest (~10) are on or next to the bench... I've a purge coming up soon.

All I know is based on hard work & writing by others. I can only aspire to augment this body of knowledge. If I am wrong it is because of my own failings. -me

Here's something I posted about three years ago, updated with new pictures

There are a number of nice watch boxes out there but I'm sure that many of you have the same problem I have: way too many watches to fit into a box. Or two. Or three.

I was searching for a solution for a while and at a watch show I saw something very interesting. It was an old embroidery floss holder that had been repurposed into a display for watch bands. This started me thinking about non-standard solutions and after a while I came to an intriguing possibility, namely a map/blueprint cabinet. The drawers in these are wide and long buy only a couple inches tall and should be suitable for holding many watches. Another reason I liked this as a solution is that we have a historic craftsman bungalow house. Turn of the century cabinets were often made of wood and may fit in nicely.

After some searching, I found the right one a combination map/bookcase cabinet with four map drawers. The top two drawers are filled with watches, and the third drawer contains some of my Gruen ephemera. Those with eagle eyes might notice that I've got some misc. Gruen things behind the glass as well.

That is a stunning case Jason! I'm torn between something like that, it would look stellar next to my watch bench. I was also thinking of a cabinet safe, something vintage but secure.

Wow, That's really nice Jason. Congratulations on such a nice repurpose. In doing a bit of searching on the Internet I have come across two others I like also. One was an Artist Flat File with some easy to make partitions in the drawers that holds four hundred watches. The second was an antique Spool Cabinet repurposed to hold watches.

Thanks for the compliments everyone!

Anything you want to see a closeup of afire? If I remember correctly you only like pure metals and in that picture I have 3 silver watches (two cushions and a Techno-quadron), one white gold quadron, one rose gold Pan Am, one yellow gold Pan Am, and a yellow gold curvex.

Much less wet now Liz. Looking at the weather reports I think you got it worse up there.

Good eyes Jack. I don't think I'll be in Denver anytime soon, but I'll keep that in mind.
