Hi there and welcome to the vintage Gruen forums.

The style number, 387 returns a date of 1939 via this site - http://www.gruenwristwatches.com/new-dating-method-2.php

The case is marked 405 (the caliber number) but your watch movement is the 406. So it is a distinct possibility that the movement original to the watch was swapped.

The serial on the movement is high but with the plain ratchet wheel, so this is pre-reset. So 1940 is a good bet, +/- a year.

As to name.... Not finding anything in the ID books I have that are close enough to call it. It does look like strap 380 (no name though) in Shawkey's book page, 127. Interestingly, this entry is marked as having a cal 406.

Hope this helps!

Serial numbers of case and movement are giving a 1941 production date. I agree that it is Strap 380 which was sold under two differnent names depending on the strap it was coming with.
The version with leather strap was the Veri-Thin Airway while the version with a metal strap was called the Veri-Thin Clipper. This has not been like the Flex band you have there which is a after market strap from about 40 or more years later.

The watch was ID'd by Barney some time ago, but here is an image from the 1941 catalog that shows the watch:
