I picked up one of these recently. I was intrigued by Matt's post on this watch. When I saw one in the swamp the other day, I made a play for it.

The case as Matt notes has a ridge or raised bevel at the crystal seat:

What I was interested in was the serial number information. Matt's adverts he shows are June 1948 and another one in Aug 1948. After several hours of sleuthing on my part, I found only one additional advert that show this watch. This advert is from October 1949. It is pretty much the same advert Matt found from Aug '48.

This give a little more than a year, year and a half, for the watch.... This jives with the following

/vgforum/index.php?t=getfile&id=10513&private=0
/vgforum/index.php?t=getfile&id=10514&private=0

Movement serial is B-580073 which should put this in the 1947-48
Case serial is G929822 which puts it to the 1948/49 production year.

The winding crown is not correct.

I'm also befuddled by the 'X's all over the movement. There are two discernable service marks on the watch.

In the image of the "master book" that Matt shows and also in the version that Bruce S. published, the listing for the strap 570 also indicates that this came in a solid 14k case. That would be interesting to verify.

fyi... the expansion bracelet is not original. It is marked 'Bulova'

All I know is based on hard work & writing by others. I can only aspire to augment this body of knowledge. If I am wrong it is because of my own failings. -me
