Hey Gary

You've got yourself a 1949 Veri-Thin Time Hill with the original band. No doubt about the band. It came with 2 styles and yours is the first one. Big-time doubt about the dial.

All of the dials I've seen in images from Gruen have exactly the same figures. Doesn't mean that they all shipped that way, but I believe both the band and the dial played a big part in the style of this watch. The dials had numerals at the 2, 4, 8 ,10, 12 positions and matchsticks elsewhere. Some watches had a single dial, at least when it shipped, and I believe this model is one of them.

The one I sold in 2009 (yikes it's been too long ago!) clearly doesn't have an original dial.

I'm not a subscriber to the Sloppy Gruen Watch Company camp. Also not sure they would have inventory left over for a watch that wasn't immensely popular. It was only advertised in 49 & 50.

I do like that watch you've got. I don't see wear showing through, even on the band, and bet it will polish up very nicely. I bet you got it for a great price, not because of the watch, but rather shrewd buyer at work.
