I tend to agree with Barney's and Afire's value estimates, but I'm not sure that these are quite as rare as some believe. A google search on "Dietrich Gruen Wind Indicator" turns up several examples including one (in a later case and incorrect box) currently listed at Bogoff. There are at least three others sold in online auctions.

General consensus is that these were made by Lecoultre, although Meylan or Aggasiz are possibilities. Over the years that they were offered, they show up with minor variations that could be attributed to different makers. Jack Goldberg, Tom McIntire, Ben Hsiung and Ethan Leipsig are all pocketwatch collectors of far greater depth and means than me, and might be able to give more detail.

Regardless, a nice watch
