Model name :Super-G
Type : 24h Jump movement
Period/date :1957-1958
Gender : Gents

Case Maker : Unknown, but most likely Swiss made
Case Material : Steel
Case Serial : 191864
Case Style no : 1108

Caliber : 422RSS
Movement Maker : Gruen
Movement Serial : NA

Bracelet : After market IW SUISSE

Other info :
The dial is most likely a re-dial. Although there are various dial variations of the SUPER-G, the two most common dials are one featuring a centrally positioned gold bordered diamond shape and a version with four 90 degree circular gold lines (both with gold surrounds of the 12, 3, 6 and 9 windows). These are found with and without SUPER-G printed above the 6 position.

Having said that, there is an argument the dial could be factory original. The "factory quality" of the print and dial finish and the fact this is a sunburst dial as opposed to the dials described above, make me belief it could also be factory original. If so, I have yet to find another example to confirm this is true. So until then I will have to assume this is a re-dial.

Again congratulations, nice find! I have not been aware that the first genearation Super-G's has been 422 based still. I always thought that the Airflights and Super-G's were all caliber 510 based watches.

Very nice acquisition. I think the 422ss movement makes this one more desirable since there is no question that it was an in-house make. Was the 510 also? I honestly don't know.

All I know is based on hard work & writing by others. I can only aspire to augment this body of knowledge. If I am wrong it is because of my own failings. -me

Though some feel that the Gruen company kind of seized to exist when the Gruen family sold the company in 1953, I feel that actually did not happen until 1960 when Henri Thiébaud resigned as MD of the Biel plant.

He was the real motor behind most of Gruen’s successful concepts between 1930 and 1960. For that reason to me caliber 510 is still a true Gruen movement developed under Henri Thiébaud leadership.

That's a phenomenal watch! And while I think that's an original dial (based on how clean the printing is), if I had a redial that was that good, I don't think I would care! The Gruen Genéve text is perfect and the starburst is so classy...
