I have two things of interest to mention that I have learned.
First, Harold R. Haerr was a lifelong employee of Gruen. He held various positions including salesman, office manager, assistant to the president.....and of course patent holder,
Second, even though this box is green...Gruen filed for trademark the color scheme in 1923 of brown outer box, inner black bottom, inner gold top, and gold trim on edge claiming use back to 1913. Past examples of "claims use" in patents have turned out to be accurate. Brown, gold, black is a Gruen signature.

There is brown and brown. I would call this dark brown with olive “ flames”. Others are dark brown with brown, or brownred or middle brown or beige. Or..
These boxes withe golden dots inside preserve well. The gold outer trim doesnt fade. And the box feels softer to the touch. So would call this a higher quality box. Maybe for the more expensive watches?

"Maybe for the more expensive watches?".
Yes, possibly for 14k Cartouches. Heres a pic from my collection showing the closest match to my box, many similarities but biggest difference is mine lacks metal clasp other than that they are close, minor difference the colour. Key similarities, size, false bottom, notched black velvet pad for ribbon attachment, etc. I'll have to dub czech but I think thid dates from 1929. And I believe my box predates what I am showing here.
Deleted the second photo bc it was only confusing what I was saying.
