Gruen SUPER-G

Another example; Fri, 01 May 2020 13:18

Model name :Super-G
Type : 24h Jump movement
Period/date :1957-1958
Gender : Gents

Case Maker : Unknown, but most likely Swiss made
Case Material : Steel
Case Serial : 191864
Case Style no : 1108

Caliber : 422RSS
Movement Maker : Gruen
Movement Serial : NA

Bracelet : After market IW SUISSE

Other info :
The dial is most likely a re-dial. Although there are various dial variations of the SUPER-G, the two most common dials are one featuring a centrally positioned gold bordered diamond shape and a version with four 90 degree circular gold lines (both with gold surrounds of the 12, 3, 6 and 9 windows). These are found with and without SUPER-G printed above the 6 position.

Having said that, there is an argument the dial could be factory original. The "factory quality" of the print and dial finish and the fact this is a sunburst dial as opposed to the dials described above, make me belief it could also be factory original. If so, I have yet to find another example to confirm this is true. So until then I will have to assume this is a re-dial.

Victoria Box

Red and black velvet variant of the Green Box; Tue, 03 March 2020 13:46

I was given not only this nice Victoria box but also little Vicky itself as a present by a very valued member of this forum. So a very big thank you to the generous guy who made me a big pleasure!!!

This box was used for the Victor and Victoria series which was introduced and heavily promoted in 1936 being the market opener for smaller watches after the baguette era for the ladies. The outside came in red and black velvet covering the wooden box. Just like the green box it has a polished metal rim at the opening. Gruen writing on the silk like inner cover comes in a modified font, also the crest has been modified over the slightly older green box. Not known if there were other watches of that time coming in the same box.

Period : 1936 - 1938
Watch type : Victor & Victoria with its variants
Size : L=7cm W=12.2cm Hfront=3.1cm Hback=5cm

Patents : unknown

Box maker : unknown

I can add a picture of the accompanying guarantee certificate and a promotional pamphlet of the series showing the box in a second post if there is a wish for it.

Case openers

Fri, 21 February 2020 21:20

I have two of each so I can show both sides at the same time!

The round opener fits the Pan Americans, Triple Date, and Chronotimer. It doesn't fit the Airflight/Day-Nite.

Unusual Ladies Wristwatch Box

Thu, 20 February 2020 17:45

Period : 1910s
Watch type : Ladies (watch shown is just for size reference)
Size : Approximately 4" x 3" x 1.5"
Inventor : Unknown
Patents : Unknown
Box maker : Unmarked

I have no idea what the "I.W. 1917" marking means. My best guess is that perhaps there was an option to personalize the box and that these are the original owners initials and the year of purchase/gifting.
