Hey thanks!

My daily beater Strap 505 yellow gf took a nose dive on to the bathroom tiles, so I replaced it with this not so super common pink gold filled Strap 506. I like these hands better too and I think the red leather addition really makes the blue hands pop while bringing out the pinkness of the case.

That is a most wearable watch, IMO.

My two caveats:
1) I'm wrong many times a day --just ask my wife!
2) Always seeking to learn more

I swore off gold filled Gruens but recently I realized I have major gaps in my collection, mainly from the 30's, so I had to make some exceptions Wink
So picked this up, a Strap 354, calibre 168 redone dial, replaced hands yadda yadda, but what I find interesting is the case that is clearly made for Gruen by Star...has no calibre or style numbers. Anyway, never seen a case this late (roughly dated this watch to 1937) that does not have the calibre & style marked, found it a tiny bit odd.

It is odd. This may not help at all, but I’ve run into one other—also a 168 model, SWCCo, earlier build.

Strangely enough, some of these star cases appear to have had the style pair added after the fact. At Gruen? Here’s another earlier 168 model, with a 165-222 style pair that is a different font and even overstamps the case number.

I have been wearing this lately. Strap 423. Pink gf. Case by Star. Around 1941. It has a calibre 430 in it which is a really nice, accurate 17 jewels movement. Style 456.

Original strap? I like pink colored watches, shame they didnt make them in the twenties.

Agreed. Once in a great while I've gotten my hands on multicolored Gruens that were partially pink from early 1930s, when the styling was still pretty firmly rooted in the 1920s aesthetic. But they are few and far between. And as far as I can tell, only appear in the Import line, although I think there's a least the possibility that one or two men's 5th Ave cases might have been two-tone pink and white. There were definitely 5th Ave. women's cases that had pink accents. I once had a 14k 5th Ave. Baguette in a white case with pink accents, with matching two-tone B&N bracelet. That was back when I thought I might be able to turn my wife on to vintage watches. It never did take.

I don't know for sure but the patent is from the correct timeframe, and it was assigned to Jacoby Bender, a known Gruen supplier.
