I am almost sure that I have seen the watch somewhere, may be in one of Mikes books. For sure it is in the Master Book aka "The Catalog", where it is called Strap 843. No SWITZERLAND visible there also, so I think the dial is original. It was build around 1954, the case came from the Jonell Watch Case Co in New York. That's all I can provide...

I forgot to add that the Strap 843 can be found on page 85 of The Gruen Watch Catalog.
If you are in Gruens this is the ultimate resource.

It is for sure rare. I assume that the watch did cost around $200. Many of these higher end watches were not advertised because the broad masses were a) not able to afford such a watch and b) it would have cut the exclusivity of such watches. So most manufacturers picked only one or a few expensive models which they advertised to show off and sold the others to the people looking for an exclusive watch like yours.
