Gruen top and black bottom hinged. Silver rim. Watch display holder from black velvet with Gruen cincinati label. Booklet Gruen watch guild workshops guarantee (A198 43550). It says "over 60 years" in the manufacture of fine watches--> 1874+60=1934

Perfect! I have just seen this box first time a month ago when I purchased a Sweetbriar baguette (Bag 108). It has been manufactured in 1935, came with this box and exact the same Guarantee paperwork. So your dating seems to be quite right. Although the band had been exchanged later, the original band was still in a paper bag which came with the watch also. It looks like it became too short for the original owner, as the replacement band was a bit longer.

Great news! Now I know where to put my baguettes. Added it in the description. I will do some digging in advertisements. That guild font style in the paperwork must end somewhere. Guess even as short as in 1935 or 1936.

Yeah, those old ladies watches tend to have short bracelets. Fit my wrist but mine are small. When I am back at home I will have a look at bag 108. Or do you have a picture?

Advertisement from April 1935

Unfortunatetly none of my 74 Sweetbriar ads shows the box, but I assume it is the original one the watch came in. Thanks to an insription and the jewelers paper bag holding the original band I was able to know a ittle more about the lady who once owned this watch.
