Well, I've been holding up here in the cubby hole since the end of February. I guess there are some things that come off the back burners having nothing but time. I've been cleaning the house getting rid of things I no longer have use for.

Well I've had this 1955 Standard master clock with a couple of secondaries sitting in the closet for years that came out of a San Fransisco school. I picked them up for next to nothing at a regional event, yeah things you don't need right Gary?

My wife wanted a running clock in the family room so some ideas came to light. I put up the master clock in the laundry room and 2 secondaries for pilot clock monitoring. The master is butt ugly but is built and runs like an armored tank! I strung some 24v thermostat wire into the family room and put up an old 1945 school secondary, needs work but runs just fine.

Also pulled out a IBM 24v pulsing movement to test it out, it runs just fine too.

Time to attach a school bell and wake up the neighborhood!

Nice project Gary!
Although the Corona virus has slowed down many aspects of daily life my work load would not get down before end of April. So there is no time for nice private projects. If I should ever face less work I would restart my book projects which I have started. Most likely the book series on Swiss movements of the 20th century will have most priority.

Nice clock, Gary! I wish those were still in use in more places (like my school...). Not that it matters right now, since no one's there. I remain busy though, since my county is moving to virtual public school on Wednesday, and we've had to restructure the curriculum.

Thanks Barney! I did not realize your book is on Swiss movements, that will be one on my list for sure when you publish.

Thanks Alex! Yes we had these clocks in my middle school and I would daydream watching those hands move. My wife is a teacher and she has been moved to virtual as well. She is freaking out about the curriculum, especially having to have grading done by next week, how in the world she says?

Hi Gary,

this is one of the book projects I started over the last three years. But it would be the most alsed for so I have prioritized this one.
The others are purely Gruen books whereof I will follow up on two later.

My work is not slowing down (yet). Working from home is a bit boring though. And I get sore ears from al those video conferencing calls with earplugs. 🥵

And for the weekends I have enough chores to do. Last weekend started digging out my grass inthe garden.

Normally I give bootcamp training on saturday (volunteer)... wasn’t allowed anymore. To keep the spirit high and the group connected, I did my first virtual Teams training with them. 😁

Good health for you all!

I hear you Jenneke! Only so much you can do in and around the neighborhood. I have kits of all sorts in the closet waiting for my retirement fun but some came out early.

Here is a shack clock kit that was sitting in a box for 2 years, decided to put it together. This was a fun build in the sense I used a crappy power supply that didn't not keep the voltage regulated, I fried the micro-controller and the LCD. Lucky I was able to order replacements and burn a new chip. The clock has GPS and that was a kit as well.

Now what to do as a family? I'm getting bored doing things on my own. My daughter suggested this...

Last time I played D&D is when I was 12 or 13 at a sleepover at a friends house.
Good in the sense it gets everyone off the online life. However the family decided to make me the dungeon master. Rolling Eyes

Glad to see all of you here!

Gary those clocks are awesome!

I still work 8-5 but now I don't have an hour (+) of commute each day. So I stay up later and tinker. I did finish two watches in the last two weeks. You all know about one, the other is a WWI US Army Signal Corps watch. I worked on another project this weekend. But Also played video games with the kid, threw the ball for the dog, ran the gauntlet at the grocery store. I've been thinking that cleaning the garage out and reorganizing would be a good time, but just never found the time. I've discover that is not the issue. I've also had three work trips called off. I've about a months worth of work that should keep me occupied.

Anyway.... things have struck pretty close to home though with this already. My neighbor passed away last week. Was someone that I saw/talked with on a frequent basis; his kids and my son are all the same age and would play together frequently. So it was a sad week for us.

All of you stay safe

Is everyone still safe and healthy? Keeping up the spirit in these strange times?

And please don’t try radium as an experimental treatment for Corona... (like sunlight and injecting disinfectants : S )

Thanks for asking Jenneke,

yes, everything alright here. I have been working from home office the last two and a half years anyway. So there has been no change to me due to the lockdown.
What have I been up to? I fulfilled my dream of the last 10 years.

Barney

Not any experiment like that but they say freezing your mask will rid the virus. We are in for the long haul according to the doctors hearing a vaccine is 11-18 months out at the earliest and the 2nd wave that arrives in October will be worse than the 1st.

Very depressing for a old film astro photographer like myself...

Congratulations, Barney! That sounds like a wonderful plan. I grew up on a farm in the middle of nowhere (though in Illinois, not Finland) and I remember it fondly. I do not enjoy the city life - it's crowded and noisy. Although recently it has not been as bad...

I fulfilled my dream of the last 10 years, I bought a farm with 1.4M acres land (forest & swamp) in Finland.
Don't forget the take the turntable and abbey road. You'll be in an octopus' garden in the shade. ;-)

Removed the closer description of my dream, may be too private I thought now...
Don'r like the Beatles, but my Vinyls may indeed accompany me. Still have them all mainly from the mid 70s to early 90s.

Congrats Bernd. I had seen what you had written earlier. That is really awesome that you have been able to fulfill that goal in life.

I'm working at home, trying to cope with my work and vacation travel being pretty much canceled through the end of June. At least I still have a job. Heck I've bought some watches.

Sorry to hear that you had to cancel your travel plans as well.
You are right, at least we still have our jobs. Not that easy to get laid off here in Germany, many people here have to live from reduced salary, but not that many lay offs.

Still working. The criminal defense business is pretty slow. Good for society, not good for me. But people can only behave for so long. Not that I'm hoping for a breakdown in social order, but... Confused
