Hope everyone is safe,
I don't know about others but I have watches stored in various manners around my home. None of them display the watches for others to see. So I want to build a Display Cabinet that will hang on the wall. This cabinet will house between 100 to 150 watches. It will be an enclosed cabinet with glass in the door so all the watches can be viewed. What I would like from all of you creative people are ideas other than the Pillows used in cases to hold the individual watches. Surely there must be some unique solutions out there in use.

But I have the feeling that you may be looking for more creative, maybe organic ideas? I'll think about that too.

The most creative idea I ever saw was at a watch show. The vendor was selling straps and had them displayed in an old wooden display that was originally for embroidery floss. I tried to buy it right there but she wouldn't even consider it. That gave me some ideas and I ended up with a vintage cabinet that had map drawers. They were the perfect depth for the collection. Here's a post from a few years ago: http://vintagegruen.org/vgforum/index.php?t=msg&goto=780 9&&srch=map#msg_7809

Thank you both Afire and Kastner. All good ideas but as Afire said I am looking for something that not only stores the watches but also displays them in an unusual and creative manner. For those that are looking for an idea to store watches only here is a pretty good one.

So Monty, are you showing just wristies or pockets or a mix of both?

My two caveats:
1) I'm wrong many times a day --just ask my wife!
2) Always seeking to learn more

I’ve always been a fan of old wood, but it does create a need for front lighting.

The watches could be shelved as shown (watch face forward), in a crate deep enough to accommodate the max strap length. Some interlocking dividers (wood or plexi), and you’re able to shelve many watches in a small space, hung vertically on a wall. Easy to add a hinged plexi or glass door, with a notch in in the crate wall to accommodate a swiveling or geared lock bar.

If I were Mrs. Gaines, I’d find a way to incorporate shiplap!

When I was in college, my watch collection was stored and displayed in a creative manner. I just pounded small nails on the side of my desk and hung them. But I'm thinking you might want a slightly more elegant solution. I'll keep thinking.

I wish I could find a picture that is similar to the embroidery floss display I wanted to buy. It was a fold out contraption that showed off everything beautifully. This isn't quite the same but
it has the general flavor.

At one time I tried to find a thread cabinet to use for watches. I located a few but the problem was they were all made to sit on a countertop and thus simply wouldn't hold enough watches. At present one of the things I use is a Colonial Pennsylvania Spice chest that was made to hold Silverware with ten drawers. Thanks to all for your ideas. They have lead me to an idea that I like at least mentally. I have to sketch it out to see if it visually works.

And? Is the sketching succesfull?

Bit late but other creative ideas. Not enclosed in a box but some hanging options. On-trend. Very Happy A room divider or wall rack(for pictures/cards). For example:

/vgforum/index.php?t=getfile&id=6558&private=0
Or wooden panel with hanging pins. Watch art!

My watches are in boxes in a box. I wasnt sure how to display them (without having the risk my rabbits take a nib or leave hairballs on them). Today I found a solution in a second hand shop.. A little display cupboard.

A bit oldfashioned so maybe I am going to paint it white. And add some led lights. My own shopping window!

And I see your window display follows Gruen’s sales literature recommendation: “display in boxes, to make the stock assortment look bigger” Razz
