Something that might help dating it. The watch I saw a few years ago in a similar box.

I had a Quadron with a 1932 dedication (though I suspect the watch was a little earlier) come in that box. I can't be certain it was original to the watch, but the watch seemed to be all original other than the band. My best guess is that it was the original box and the watch originally had a metal band.

Hi Jenneke,

that’s a noble box - literally! Maker of the box is the company F. H. Noble & Co., Chicago, Illinois. Here’s one of their several “N” trademarks:

I saw some design patents of Noble relating to watch boxes, but unfortunately, none of them matches your box. In most cases a John M. Shields was the inventor.

Regards

Martin

Martin, great that you found the maker!

The F.H. Noble & co was established in 1876 and was situated at (553-) 559 W 59th st Chicago (building is gone).

They made jewelry boxes, badges, emblems, pins and rings. I am not sure but it could be they switched to cremation urns.

The patent i think the box might refer to, is US1906111A Box for displaying jewelry and the like, by John M Shields. Filed march 8 1930 and published april 25 1933. The patent focusses on a container (any suitable construction) with a collapsible display frame(Velvet covered). That watch holder has the same shape, not that “hingie” though.
