I have identified my watch as a Gruen chancellor but it doesn't say "curved" on the face, any idea why?

Hi Weedy03,

there are three possibilities which come to my mind resulting in the lack of the "Curvex" (should not be curved on the dial) signature.
1) It is a refinished dial where they simply did not care
2) The dial is so worn that the letters are gone
3) your ID is wrong
There are several very similar watches also from the Veri-Thin series which might look similar but are not the Curvex Chancellor.
Which movement does your watch have? Is it also a caliber 440 movement?
It might also be a Veri-Thin Regal or something else with a 3 diamond dial if this is what made you IDing your watch as the Curvex Chancellor. There is at least one other Veri-Thin model with 3 diamonds and solid gold case 430-587 caliber/style combination.

Without this caliber/style combination and a few good views of the watch it will be difficult for us to help you with the ID of your watch.

I think the 430-587 is the Veri-Thin Governor...

I recall a discussion some time back that Gruen sometimes left off something on the dial that is normally there. The Curvex can be located on 2 places, one is below the 12:00, the over right above the subseconds.

Weedy03, does the caseback match? I assume the bezel does. Can you post a picture? (moderator, I don't know if this thread is the place to kick off this discussion and bring it into even more detail)

Do these particular dials have the hard enamel logo/indices? I found for the Roman numeral dials that the "Curvex" logo is not of hard enamel like the "Gruen" logo and indices. International Dial for example uses a buffer to remove the old patina which does not affect the hard enamel paint. Thus the Curvex logo is buffed off very easily along with the patina. I suspect many dial refinish companies used this method.
