I would love to have to correct box for each watch I own. But reality is there are more watches than boxes out there. That is why I “fix” or try to remake an original box. But still... not enough boxes for all my watches.

Other than this, I do like to wear my watches. A pile of cluttered watches doesnt help. Very Happy

So, my solution. I buy vintage cutlery/christening set/spoon boxes. They have a velvet inside I can re-use. Or I make an insert from a second hand picture frame back. For the watch holders I use plastic elastic cord for jewelry making.

Example:

Other option is to put them in shallow trays. How do you prevent piles?

That's a nice container and an elegant solution!

I have a vintage cabinet with map drawers. I posted about it a while back: https://vintagegruen.org/vgforum/index.php?t=msg&goto=78 09&&srch=map+drawer#msg_7809

Another solution I once saw at a watch show was a vintage embroidery floss display. The woman was using it to show off her watch bands.

Those drawers are very nice for watches with leather straps. Nice collection you have.

For the few curvex/ristside watches I have, I will have to make some sort of a bulge in the middle. Some sort of foam. For pocketwatches I am searching for nice little hooks.

If only I had enough watches for a cabinet. My 12ish watches reside in a dresser drawer.
