And a glass for this pocket watch. Measurement of my watchmaker: 382mm

Edit: correction, it is called a hour hand not a minute hand

They're called Lance Cathedral Hands.

And I personally would prefer to exchange the hour hand. To me the minute hand looks like it would have the correct length. Just my personal opinion Smile

Ownoooo.... might need two hands when you are correct. One benefit. If they should be moon my watchmaker has plenty of those. I’ve seen his unorganized hand drawer.

Hi Gary, these hands were an option on V7 according to 26 parts bookk. Where the name has changed to simply Lance Hands.

Yes if you notice the minute hand extends up past the minute circle so it's not the right size hand IMO.

Well if Jenneke goes with the same hand just have the watchmaker trim it. Sounds like she has options.

I have plenty of hands for the V7 all moon. Very Happy

My V-7 parts box is the same as Gary's with moon hands. But I have a V-4 box and the bottle contains moon hands and lance hands (even though the label said it should only have moons). No idea if these will fit.

I disagree that the hand on the watch is "wrong" - a normal V7 minute hand tip will not be exactly on this minute track. That doesn't make it "right" either - but it's a real factory V7 hand, no question.

This style does not use a different sized minute hand than normal V7 (in terms of hole size). But the track is closer to the center than normal. So the generic Gruen hand will not line up.

It did not come from the factory with that hand on it, though. I have one of these with original hands, and the shape of the diamond is subtly different. Stubbier, and shorter. I think these hands started as normal V7 hands that were carefully stoned down to size before blueing. Both hour and minute differ - the entire outer (not inner) tip geometry is different from normal Gruen cathedral hands.

I also have V7 hands available, but only the normal types. Unless you're willing to find and buy a parts movement with the right hands, the only way to get the factory look will be to have someone carefully stone down a set of normal V7 hands. But that means you don't need a minute hand - you already have the right one. You do need an hour hand, but more importantly someone with experience altering hands.

Breguet moon hands are a correct style for the V7, but I do not think I have ever seen them with this dial style on a V7. And they would have the same length issue, but the alteration would be more difficult due to the shape of the hand.

Dials with engraving outside of a smaller-diameter minutes track have been used since the teens on multiple models, and every Gruen with this style dial has altered hands from the factory. There was a 740 version that used custom Breguet moon hands. But I don't recall seeing the shortened moon hands on a V7.

Gosh, how a seemingly simple questions leads to an interesting story. This is amazing stuff.

The track closer to the middle. Pfieuw, not sure if my watchmaker can alter them. I must say, it doesnt bother me it is a bit too long. Makes a good story.

Would I selected the watch options, I would have chosen the moon hands. In my head flowing floral shapes fit well with round hands. But if the lance cathedral were the norm with these fancy dials, well, I will keep it that way. Smile

So, a cathedral hour hand is the one I need. Or a spare v7 with decorated dial (anyone? Cool )

Might need other stuff too. Very Happy Cant set the time and it is stuck somewhere.

With some help from Alex, it has now a normal hour hand.

Annoyingly, the seconds hand was lost by my watchmaker. Not that he told me, but the before and after pictures… Confused
And there was glue residue left next to the glass. Sigh.

It ticks. And can set the time (with some force what puzzled my watchmaker, short setting bits with moving screw?)
