That forum has a pretty good history of going down temporarily. Hopefully it'll be back soon. It would be very much unlike the current operator to let it go permanently dark without any warning.

Who knows, Nookster gave up the keys awhile back and they are still down. I've went to watchuseek for now for my non-Gruen browsing.

True, but I think Susan (retroworx) would not likely just let it implode and walk away. I'm sure somebody is working on getting it back up and running. In addition to being a semi-active forum, it's a massive repository of knowledge and resources for Hamilton collectors. I can't imagine it being allowed to just disappear. But I am getting a little anxious.

Yeah saw Susan at the National in Virginia. IDK but these forums are some complicated beats to keep going, php, sql, Linux an vi all wrapped into one. Even this forum can be daunting when in debug mode.

One of their biggest issues and I suspect is the cause, their site hosting has very little if any support. I pointed that out to Nookster when he was getting his https certificates, they were making him pay monthly fee for it. I literally fell off my stool because ours is free.

My bets are they might come back but not all in one piece.

Okay, now I'm getting nervous. I'm sticking to the premise that it's too valuable of a resource and there are too many dedicated Hamilton enthusiasts for it to fade away entirely. But with how long it's been down, I guess something relatively catastrophic must have happened. Vintage Gretsch guitars are my other passion, and about 10 years ago, the original Gretsch forum went down in a massive way. It came back eventually, but a lot of the data disappeared, and all of what remained somehow got separated from the original topics, so there was nothing left but a bunch of topics strewn with random posts. An enormous amount of shared wisdom and experience was totally lost. I'd hate for that to have happened with VWF.

Yes something is not right even to the point no one can put a simple html page there at the home URL stating what happened. You don't need the forum software to do that so I'm thinking they are gone for good.

I was in contact with Coronado and asked if he knew anything, and evidently the forum is going back to Nookster and currently undergoing some upgrades. Maybe there was an announcement and we missed it.

Hi all! I was beginning to get worried. I only check them out rarely lately, but would really miss having access to all that invaluable info. Some of the heated topics were quite entertaining as well. Liz Smile

And then I awake to find this forum down too. I just endured 20 hours of nowhere to talk about watches. But I survived and am stronger for the ordeal.

Yes we at least we can explain what is going on and not ponder for weeks on end. ;-) If you ever find us down you can go here to check or visit Time-hill.org, we'll post a message there.

Well, aside from the big weeks-long outage, that forum does have a pretty rich history of short outages. Hopefully this is just another one of those.

One of the FB vintage watch groups has a post.... the host did something that lost connection to a database... or something (remember I'm a geologist). Short story, is that it is back up for now, but do not post anything new until things are declared stable.

Yeah, I got on it last night and did my usual and hit "unread posts" and what came up was a jumble of old and newer threads. It looks like a fair amount of content must have gotten mixed up or removed. Hopefully they can sort it out.

Anybody know what's going on?  For a while I could log in but not access anything other than the one thread Mark used for updates.  But for the last week or two it won't recognize me username and ID.  I'm assuming that it's still under construction but thought I'd check in here to make sure others aren't able to access it in case the problem is with me.

I was asking a friend that knows Mark C. and what I was told is that Mark is pulling the plug for good on it. I wish we had gotten a warning or something. What I understand is that Mark was trying an update which failed and then the data backup failed.

That blows.  I tried Watch Talk Forums for a more general watch chat fix.  Ooh booy.  Not good.  What's the next best thing?  Watchuseek?

How do you feel about Facebook? There is an interesting Hamilton Group. Also a good group on Art Deco and Vintage American Watches. They are well and actively moderated. I sneak in Gruen at the later often. Forums seem to be in decline across all disciplines. Hoping that we can keep this one going for as long as possible. Changing tech and software seems to be a huge hurdle for all forums, whether it is WUS, NAWCC, MWF, us or VWF.

I'm not on it.  Tried it when it first came out and found it too creepy.

Looks like they finally migrated over to Facebook...https://www.facebook.com/groups/327462217598779

I see Susan is one of the moderators, didn't see Mark (Nookster).

That group on FB has been around for a 4 or 5 years now. Separate from the VWF. I meet several of the more active participants when I went to York for the Fall Regional in 2022.

I hear rumors that VWF will be coming back potentially as a subscription service.

If I was a Hamilton guy, I'd definitely subscribe.  The amount of documentation on that sight was staggering compared to what us poor Gruen people have access to.
