Yes, I am back on forum. Still looking for someone to do your COAs? I also offer lessons on how to tangle hairsprings! LOL! Well, not any more since my thumb has finally healed up! Anyway, PM me if help is needed. I will re-post information on properly cleaning a watch to include the "what to and what to not" touch and adjust.

I welcome all Gruenites!!!!

Thanks Jack! Not too concerned as this is really not the place to pick up business, but always willing to try. Lots of newcomers that should really learn the art,

Just got a Bulova back from Timeticker. He performed a COA on it. It turned out awesome! He kept me updated through the whole process. The price was lower than anyone I have sent to before. I will definitely be sending more to him. And a quicker turnaround than taking it to the watchmaker that lives two miles away from me. I recommend him.

Thank you for the kind comments, and trust! It is largely in part of my success due to people who are far more experienced in the watch repair area, that I owe them an immense amount of respect and thanks! They have offered advice, tutoring, and guidance. Great website, and great people!

Ask yourself a few questions when starting repair.

1.) What value does the watch hold for you?
2.) How much is the watch worth?
3.) Are you willing to learn the trade?
4.) How much do you want to spend in repairs?
Listen, for me? I could care less! I love to teach others, be taught/gain experience (have much to learn, as always) and love this forum. If you're a collector, have a family heirloom, want to get started in the basics, then this is the place to be. I've been meaning to add more stuff here, but military life literally keeps me hopping. I would love to hear from any prospects that want to get started.

Watches, watches, watches.........what shall I do with this vintage watch that has been in my family for 90 years? This is a question I have really heard quite often. My point? Perhaps it is time for you, dear reader, to learn the ancient art of watch repair. To actually get on old timepiece up and running again, can be amazing super exciting! Imagine your Great Grandfather's pocket watch keeping time yet once again.

Sometimes, all it needs is a COA (Cleaning, Overhaul, and Adjustment). This requires completely taking the watch apart, cleaning EVERYTHING in the watch, new mainspring, and hopefully it fires back up and runs. Of course, this is the most hoped for and simplistic approach. Some folks don't want the added expense of a new mainspring, but it makes all the difference in the world, as in the watch running for 22-26 hours (old mainspring) of 34-36 hours (new mainspring). So much more to add, but hopefully, the future will afford me the time to do so.

We have now launched in to full time watch repair (when I'm not at the Army) I'll retire soon, but hope to go full tilt.

Well, I hope so too! I've had some early start issues that I think I have ironed out. One of them is finding dependable vendors to purchase items from. That seems to be a problem, and the other is knowing when to say no. Hopefully this all works out!

Quick recommendation for "Montoya Watch Service" in Bellflower, CA. Jorge Montoya is a fascinating guy -- born in Nicaragua to a family in the jewelry/watch business, spent time in Switzerland learning watchmaking as a teenager, arrested by the communist regime, spent time as a political prisoner and then refugee, came to California, and then worked for Rolex for 20 years. Super nice guy, he did a great job on a couple of repairs I just sent him. He kept me updated with photos and videos throughout his (quick and reasonably priced) repairs. He's not the cheapest option, to be sure, but I really enjoyed working with him and will use him again. He gave me one of his old Bergeon cannon pinion removers, since I mentioned that I was having trouble finding a quality one that was affordable.
