Found this watch in a box of old watches. Intrigued me, so I researched a little. Unfortunately there isn’t much available (with my limited skills). I perused this forum for a while and didn’t see it referenced, so I figured I would ask.

I will post a picture, I look forward to your expertise. I have been wearing it for a few days and it seems to keep time fairly well

First of all, welcome to this forum!

It's probably best to let the ad speak, with which the watch was introduced to the public....

Here we learn its name:

/vgforum/index.php?t=getfile&id=9766&private=0

It is the Autowind Armstrong, it saw the light of day in 1970 and was dedicated to, who would be surprised at the time, Neil Armstrong. Space Age just...

In 1972, at the dark side of the force, we can also guess for the first time that there must be a corresponding dial like yours (will be blue, those black and white newspaper ads just leave us guessing):

/vgforum/index.php?t=getfile&id=9765&private=0

In the second half of 1972 and 1973 we see then already more clearly:

/vgforum/index.php?t=getfile&id=9764&private=0

That was also the last year of this magnificent watch. Unfortunately, the old black and white ads don't even give a hint of how beautiful the blue dial looks in reality.
Some call the design an UFO, some call it a fried egg. For me personally, one of the most beautiful watches Gruen ever made.
1970/71 with the white dial in yellow gold by the way, the white gold verson was first offered in 1972 according to the factual situation of the ads. So this watch was most likely built in 1972/73.
A magnificent piece!

Thank you so much for that!! I’ve only been able to find one on my search and it was an eBay listing. It didn’t have much info on the listing, so I wanted to try and find some more. He was asking $695 on eBay. Holy cow

Seller probably priced it high after seeing a high asking price for a Dynamic Genève.
